The Mario Lanza competition of Filignano is part of the competition circuit, Benvenuto Franci di Pienza with the competitions of the city of Bologna, Anselmo Colzani of Budrio and Mario caniglia of Sulmona which promotes the development of young talent, supported by the committee of honur chaired by Adua Veroni.

Launching the XIV International Singing Competition “Mario Lanza” 2013, dedicated to foreign and Italian opera singers. The contest will take place in Filignano on 14, 16, 17 and 18 August 2013.

Opera singers of all nationalities and all vocal registers may participate in the competition which will take place on the 14 th of August 2013 if they have reached the age of 18 or were born after the 31st December 1975.

Participants must accompany their entries, which need to be compiled carefully specifying their chosen arias, with the following documents:

A brief C.V., musical studies undertaken, prizes won, nature of employment, identity papers (passport, identity card, railway card or birth certificate) and two recent photographs signed on the back.

In the event a piano accompanist is requested, legible photocopies (not back and front) of all the chosen arias.

A copy of the payment of the entry fee of €80.00.

A release authorizing, without compensation, the audio and video recording of the stages of the competition.

In the event of non participation or an entry not conforming to the rules, the secretary is not bound to reimburse the entry fee.

Applications sent after this date may be accepted at the discretion organization.

The deadline for entries is set for July 31, 2013, and will be determined by the postmark.
The entry deadline will not be allow any adjustment to the plan submitted and accepted by the Committee
organizer.

The competition will comprise three parts: elimination, semi final and final.

First part ELIMINATION: the participant must perform from memory an operatic aria (chosen from the 5 listed in their entry application) in Italian and one in a foreign language (musicals are not permitted). The elimination stage will be held in the church of San Pasquale Babylon in the village of Cerasuolo in the comune of Filignano.

Second part SEMIFINAL: the participant must perform an operatic aria in Italian (not that sung in the elimination stage) and a compulsory piece chosen from those presented with their entry application. The semi final stage will take place, accompanied by piano and in the presence of the public, at 21.00 hours in the Piazza Municipio of Filignano.

Third part FINAL: the participant must perform an aria chosen by the committee from those presented for the competition by the singer and will take place on the 17^th of August 2013 at 21.oo hours in the Piazza Municipio of Filignano in the presence of the public. Finalists must present themselves in concert dress.

Art 8

The organisation will place an accompanist at the diaposal of the participants. The participant may avail themselves of their own accompanist but at their own cost. The day before the elimination round the accompanist will be made available to the participants from 10.00 till 20.00 hours. All participants may reserve the accompanist by telephoning the competition secretary.

Art 9

Competitors must bring a valid identification document (identity card, passport, driving license, railway card, birth certificate) to the registeration preset for the first elimination round in the St. Pasquale Baylon Church in the village of Cerasuolo in the comune of Filignano on August 14 at 10:00 am. No further notice of the meeting will be issued.

Participants who do not present themselves at the registration will be eliminated from the competition unless a justifiable reason is presented. The order in which participants will appear will be decided by extraction immediately after registration. The elimination stage will begin immediately after registration on Wednesday the 14^th of August. The timing of the second stage will de announced after the elimination stage is finished.

Art 10

The jury will be comprised of persons in good standing in the international music world. The organization is committed to inviting to the final evening, personalities and representatives of the highest levels of the
international opera scene, opera singers, singing teachers, artistic directors, agents, opera, music critics

art 11

The jury has the power to stop the performance at any time of the trial or to call for supplementary information.

Art 12

Members of the Jury will abstain from voting for participants with whom they have relationships, or have taught in the two years prior to the competition. To this end each member will make a declaration to:

The abstaining member of the jury delegates his powers to the Artistic Director or his delegate.

Art 13

The evaluation of the competitors will take place in the following manner:
First stage ELIMINATION: All members of the jury will assess the “fitness” or
“Unsuitability” of the participant. This judgment will be taken by a majority of the members. In case of equality of judgment the jury will be augmented by the Artistic Director or his delegate.
Second and Third stages (SEMI-FINAL and FINAL): every jury member will expresse a vote by attributing numerical scores expressed in hundredths. The arithmetic average of the votes cast, eliminating the highest rating and the lowest, will determine the order of merit. Admission to the final will only be open to competitors have a score higher than 80/100. The list of semifinalists and finalists will be made ??public at the conclusion of the meetings of the jury and after the completion of relevant administrative processes.

a) Premio della Fondazione Teatro «Carlo Felice» di Genova ad un concorrente anche non premiato a cui

sarà offerto un ruolo nella prossima produzione operistica del “Progetto Giovani” nella Stagione 2013/2014;

b) La Fondazione Teatri di Piacenza potrà impegnare i vincitori nella programmazione delle Stagioni di

Lirica e Concertistica del Teatro Municipale di Piacenza fornendo un’occasione unica di valorizzazione del

loro talento attraverso il debutto in un allestimento d’opera o in un concerto lirico sinfonico;

c) Premio «Opera in Piazza Giuseppe Di Stefano Festival XXIV» edizione 2014 – Scrittura o Premio

Artistico ai vincitori o ai finalisti del Concorso “Mario Lanza” della Città di Filignano ad insindacabile

Anderson a cui seguirà un Concerto finale o messa in scena di una Piccola Opera (Rossini – Donizetti -

Cimarosa, … ) con orchestra presso il Teatro Consorziale di Budrio (Bologna). Il tutto è comprensivo di vitto

e alloggio. Verrà rilasciato un attestato di partecipazione.

g) Premio speciale «Maria Caniglia» Sulmona

art 15

Winners will perform in the gala opera and symphonic final of the 18th International Festival “Mario Lanza”
with the Symphonic Orchestra of Udmurtia Russian International Opera and Choir conducted by Maestro Leonardo Quadrini, to be held on August 18 at 21.00 h in the Piazza Municipio in Filignano. The winners are required to be available for free and perform the songs listed by the commission, under penalty of cancellation of the award. The winners will perform in concert dress

art 16

            The winners will receive a diploma of honor. The finalists will receive a certificate of merit. The
competitors who are not admitted to the final examination will receive a certificate of participation.

Art 17

The jury reserves the right not to award premiums or set up new ones. Prizes not assigned shall be distributed in proportion among the other winners.

Art 18

All stages of the competition will be recorded, played back, filmed, filming in audio and video (direct
streaming), to be used freely and transmitted both in Italy and abroad, such that the participants cannot
advance any claim, Competitors must sign the model release document.

Art 19

We accept no responsibility for injuries or damages of any kind that may result to competitors during the period of the entire contest.

Art 20

The organizers reserve the right to make amendments to this Regulation. They have  the right to cancel the competition if circumstances beyond their control prevent the execution of it, in which case the participants will only be reimbursed their entry fee.

Art 21

The Rules of the Competition are subject to the Italian text.

Art 22

In case of dispute, the competent court of Isernia.

Art 23

The submission of the entry form implies full and unconditional acceptance of all the rules in this announcement, as well as any amendments provided for in Article 20.

Art 24

The jury’s decision is final.

Art 25

The costs of travel and accommodation are the responsibility of the participant.

Piazza gremita e gran successo per il gran galà lirico-sinfonico di chiusura del XV Festival Internazionale “Omaggio a Mario Lanza”, che si è svolto ieri sera, 14 agosto, a Filignano. I protagonisti della serata sono stati i vincitori del XIII Concorso Lirico “Mario Lanza” accompagnati dall’orchestra di Dnepropetrovsk diretta dal M° Fernando Raucci.

Il concorso, iniziato lo scorso venerdì 11 agosto, si è articolato in 3 prove: da 37 concorrenti (provenienti da Inghilterra, Russia, Polonia, Francia, America, Corea, Giappone e Italia) sono stati selezionati prima 18 semifinalisti e poi 10 finalisti, e al termine delle selezioni sono stati decretati i vincitori. La giuria che ha avuto questo arduo compito era composta da personaggi di spicco del panorama musicale italiano, inglese ed americano e presieduta dal M° Nazzareno Antinori.

Il 1° premio è stato assegnato al soprano russo Marina Schevchenko, il 2° premio al soprano coreano Hee Jin Oh, il 3° Premio e Premio Speciale “Mario Lanza” al tenore italiano Alessandro Moccia.

Durante il concerto questi giovani ma bravissimi cantanti hanno regalato emozioni indimenticabili ad un pubblico numeroso ed attento.

Si chiudono, dunque, con un bilancio estremamente positivo le manifestazioni che anche quest’anno Filignano ha organizzato in onore del grande tenore di origini filignanesi e si spera di poter rinnovare l’invito per l’anno prossimo.

This year, the Festival will celebrate  its 15^th edition. Over the years the event has played host to some of the most popular and acclaimed artists on the international music scene, who paid tribute to Mario Lanza in Piazza Municipio, in the beautiful natural surroundings of Filignano. Past guests have included Cecilia Gasdia, Katia Ricciarelli, Chiara Taigi, Francesca Patanè (sopranos); Nicola Martinucci, Gianluca Terranova (tenors); Marco Chingari, Carmine Monaco (baritones); Antonella Ruggiero, to name a few.
